In another effort to harshly quell protests that have erupted in Hong Kong during the month of August, which came following a new proposal to extradite criminals to neighboring China, police began to spray protesters with blue dye water canons with the purpose of marking these people as possible targets for arrest in the future.

The scene could be described as something from a movie as bright blue water was sprayed above a crowd of protesters washing onto the streets below.

Tensions have continued to rise since this event with police and protesters continuing to clash in violent demonstrations which included live rounds being shot into the air to warn protesters away from more violence.

Beyond this, police also raided a subway station using tear gas in order to repel the pro-democracy demonstrators away from the area in another moment of violent clashes.

Right now the future of Hong Kong seems very uncertain, however, I stand with the protesters against Chinese encroachment on their civil liberties and I know that most Americans do as well.

The President and his administration should vocalize support for the Hong Kong protesters in their fight for their civil liberties and contest any show of Chinese intervention with stern resilience. The only way to guarantee these people are not subjugated to inhumane violations of their human rights is for the US to stand alongside them on the world stage.
